Employee Surveys
A survey within the company is a great resource to finding out how your employees are doing, how they are feeling, and what issues are presenting themselves. And because employees are the lifeblood of a company, it is important to make sure they are all on track–working hard and feeling happy and content. There are several types of surveys that you can administer to your employees. But the one that I want to focus on with this article are the 360 feedback surveys.
360 feedback surveys
get many different views of the same situation or the same employee in question. Just like the name implies, these surveys are for all sides and interaction levels, including customers, co-workers, peers, management, supervisors, and anyone else the employee will be in contact with. Your feedback is improved when ompared to the results you would have received just from asking one source. This way, when evaluating an employee, you can see if they are meeting their quota, getting along with co-workers, enjoying work, and finding an effective way to cope with stress.
One of the main benefits of this type of employee survey is that you will be able to see their strengths, eaknesses, and personal insights all in one shot. With all of this in consideration, it is easier to make the decision required–whether that is a pay raise, promotion, or needing to let someone go. Seeing all sides of a situation will aid you to making the most informed decision possible. Now the tricky part is giving constructive criticism after looking over the results. Here are a few tips to make sure that you are tactful and professional:
- If you have something negative to say, make sure you add some positives in there as well.
- They call it the “sandwich technique”. Sandwich the negative comment between two positives in order to lessen the blow.
- Make sure you aren’t “attacking” the employee or making them feel awkward.
- Be professional always.
- Make it private. Don’t criticize someone–constructive or not–in front of co-workers.
